To the One

I want to share a song with you called “To the One” by Harvest Bashta. I really encourage you to read the description first and then listen to the song, if you can hold out!

The words of this song come from Revelation chapter 5. Let me set the scene a little bit… John (the beloved disciple) is having a heavenly encounter in the throne room of God. God is giving John some insight into the events surrounding Jesus second, final, and permanent return to planet earth (this is often called the “end times” in church lingo). In Revelation chapter 5, the story line is set around an important item called “the scroll”. This scroll essentially contains the title deed to planet earth and lays out the action plan needed to prepare the planet and the people for God to dwell on earth with people forever. To have possession of this scroll is to be entrusted with ultimate authority and power. We all understand that power can be wielded for good or evil. John begins to grieve as he looks around and sees that no one is worthy to possess and open the scroll…not the angels, not any of the righteous saints of the past. He weeps because God’s will cannot come to pass until this scroll is opened. John grieves because God cannot dwell with man as He desires until this scroll and the action plan it contains is executed.

When John is in the midst of despairing… BEHOLD! Someone is found who is worthy to open the scroll! The Lion of the Tribe of Judah… HE IS WORTHY! It says that Jesus is worthy because He was slain and with His blood He purchased people for God. Jesus is the ONLY ONE worthy because He bowed to the lowest position. Jesus of Nazareth, the God Man (“God in a bod”), allowed Himself to be killed… He bowed so low, so He is now seated in the highest place of authority. We can trust this Man because He laid down His life. He alone can be trusted to justly execute the end-time action plan of God because He has no selfish ambition.

What John is witnessing is a new revelation of Jesus… the One who is worthy to take the scroll. When new revelation of God comes, something else usually accompanies it in Scripture… A NEW SONG! We get to see the words to this song that is yet to be sung. And guess what… WE WILL JOIN IN THIS SONG!

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”

And we can start practicing now…
